Cecilia Bignall

She is cellist of award-winning Trio Derazey (formerly the Jorgensen Trio), exciting accordion-and-cello Duo Bayanello, with whom she recently returned from a 21 concert tour of Russia and cello-percussion duo ‘Imprint’ with jazz vibraphonist Ralph Wyld, as well as being in his group Mosaic, Tom Ridout’s No Excuses Band, and Phacelia Ensemble. She has performed live on BBC Radio 3 on numerous occasions and featured on BBC2 Proms Extra documentary about musicians crossing the boundaries between contemporary classical and electronic music. 

Cecilia’s compositions have been performed at Clapham Omnibus, Borough New Music, Clarendon Muse, the Bloomsbury Festival, Hamburg Klangmanufaktor and Schloss Rittergut Lucklum, and broadcast in Germany on DLF Kultur. She regularly collaborates with composers and artists from different genres and medias, performing premiers, improvising and creating new works.

British cellist and composer Cecilia Bignall is in demand on the modern music scene in chamber music, contemporary music and jazz. 

Since completing her undergraduate degree with first class honours at the Royal Academy of Music where she studied with Robert Cohen and Patrick Nunn, Cecilia has performed extensively across the UK and Europe, including at the Oslo Opera House, St Martin-in-the-Fields, the Wigmore Hall, the International House of Music in Moscow, Kings Place and St John’s Smith Square, and at festivals in the UK, Russia, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Japan and Italy. 

Cecilia has played with groups such as London Sinfonietta, CHROMA ensemble x.y, explore ensemble and Riot Ensemble, toured with jazz sax legend Chris Potter and Laura Jurd, recorded with Tim Garland at Abbey Road, performed with DJ/composer Gabriel Prokofiev and is a Nonclassical artist.
