The Elysian Quartet
Since then they have worked with an incredible range of artists, including Damo Suzuki, Killa Kella, Keith Tippet, Hot Chip, Polar Bear, Merideth Monk, and Powerplant’s Joby Burgess. They have also crossed over into multimedia projects, and provide interesting live improvisations with Max de Wardiner over old silent films.
The Elysian Quartet was formed in 1999, by prize-winning students at Trinity College of Music. One of the most innovative young ensembles in the UK, they focus exclusively on playing 20th century, contemporary, and experimental music. The Elysians were the first musicians to be involved with Nonclassical, and premiered both the first recording, and club night of the label, with Gabriel Prokofiev’s String Quartet No. 1 and returned four years later to play his second Quartet.
