23.07.2015 // KLAVIKON ALBUM LAUNCH        @ RED GALLERY

TICKETS HERE - FACEBOOK EVENT

Klavikon will be perfoming an extended live set on his prepared piano in the Red Gallery basement in Shoreditch to officially launch his ground-breaking debut album, which is already receiving strong support on BBC 6 Music and is set to become one of the most talked about new music albums of 2015.

Klavikon spent several years honing a super disciplined and mechanical piano technique to create the stunning multi-layered effect heard in the Klavikon project. All sounds are made by the piano, by adding various objects of stone, wood, plastic and metal, and are then amplified. Credit cards provide rasping sub basses, washers hi-hats and rubber wedges kicks. With the use of bolts, screws and assorted electric toys, Klavikon reimagines ‘electronic’ music without the use of conventional processes.
From an early age Leon Michener combined a focus on Western classical music with a deep attachment to electronic dance music as it evolved through the 1990s and beyond, with artists such as Autechre, Basic Channel, Jeff Mills, Source Direct, Photek, Bambaataa, Squarepusher and Todd Edwards providing inspiration. It’s this dual mindset that has informed his development of Klavikon. Leon Michener studied classical piano and composition at Trinity College and the Royal Academy of Music. His recordings have been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and recent performances include Stockholm Museum of Modern Art, The Roundhouse and Kings Place.

Thomas Stone creates his immersive music using contrabassoon, samplers, loop pedals and activated percussion.
Blurring the boundaries between electronic and acoustic sound production the compositions explore themes of ritual and presence.
An enforced simplicity runs throughout the dreamlike sound world conjured from slowly evolving motifs using the lowest and highest notes possible on the contra' accompanied by a hiss and murmur from the percussion and pulse driven samples breaking to moments of fragile beauty.
