Congratulations to James McIlwrath for his winning performance at Nonclassical Battle of the Bands 2020! Taking place in total darkness, his set was dynamic, theatrical and often downright hilarious, as he performed Alison Knowles’ Shuffle Piece, Neil Luck’s THING and Oogoo Maia’s Maximum Effort.
Plaudits also to our runner-up, Rosie Middleton, who held the room in captivated silence with her performance of Laura Bowler’s Cover Squirrel.
Finally, well done to everyone that participated – it was an incredible evening, with scrapheap percussion, meditative sax, postmodern piano cut-ups and stunning new composition. Thanks to our other finalists Yorgo Stenos, Lara Jones, Nobuto and Ret Frem.
